Bloom Nepal Fellowship
Beginning the year 2019, we have launched the Bloom Nepal Fellowship for college students within and beyond Nepal. The fellowship presents the undergrads with an exciting opportunity to get hands-on experience in leading an educational institution by involving them in some of our very ambitious projects. The fellowship isn’t just an opportunity to boost your CV, but it is a platform to network with some of the best and brightest education pioneers of Nepal and contribute towards creating a difference in the education sector of this country. This year we have opened up opportunities for the fellows to get involved in 3 of our on-going projects. We are welcoming fellows from all backgrounds and nationalities. Professional experience in an area of expertise is an asset, but there are a lot of tasks the interns and volunteers can interdisciplinarily.
The Fellowship runs from mid-June 2019 to mid-August 2019.
1. Maths Book Development Project
Bloom Nepal School’s core leadership team comprises of mathematicians, engineers, computer scientists, and economists. All these fields intersect in their deep mathematical nature. Keeping in mind the interdisciplinary nature of mathematics and the importance of a strong mathematical foundation, and also realizing the lack of good quality textbooks in Nepal, we have sought to write the maths textbook for class 2 to 10 ourselves. We extend this opportunity to all the maths enthusiasts out there to be a part of this project and get experience with the tedious and yet rewarding task of writing textbooks. We welcome applications who meet the following requirements:
- Minimum age 18 years
- Be a STEM Field major (any of the Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
- Language skills in English and/or Nepali
- Very much passionate user of textbooks and appreciates the significance of an interactive textbook as a self-teaching material
- Mathematics enthusiast
- Team player and communicator
2. Nationwide Outreach Project:
Bloom Nepal School was set up with a vision to be a hub where the best and brightest kids from all over Nepal can be nurtured to excel so that they can compete in the international arena. Commencing this year Bloom Nepal is seeking to expand its outreach to students all over Nepal. As such we welcome applications for the fellows to work on our outreach program who meet the following requirements:
- Preferred major: Film, Economics, and Computer Science
- Be a tech-savvy person
- Experience with photography and creating promotional videos (not mandatory though. We will train you on the program as well. However we expect you to be very passionate about making promotional videos)
- Up to date with different video editing software like iMovie, Movie Maker, Lumen, etc.
- Team player and communicator
What will the fellowship provide?
As a part of the fellowship we will provide the following:
- A stipend to cover some of your expenses such as travel for the duration of the fellowship
- Daily meals (breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner)
- Pick up at the Kathmandu airport at arrival and departure
Expenses expected from you:
- Travel expenses to Nepal and back (for international applicants)
- Health-related expenses
There are no additional program fees or any application fees.

“Interning at Bloom Nepal School was a life-changing experience for me. I stayed with the school for three months in summer 2015 after the earthquakes. As the school building was destroyed by the earthquake, we lived in tents. From day one everybody at the school, both the children and the staff, welcomed me warmly.”

As the school building was destroyed by the earthquake, we lived in tents. From day one everybody at the school, both the children and the staff, welcomed me warmly. The team spirit among the students is something I’ve seen nowhere else. The children are happy, helpful, bright and compassionate. During those three months my tasks were teaching English to the older students and managing the social media platforms. I also conducted a small fundraising campaign and designed newsletters to the donors. I contacted media and wrote news articles to spread the word about the school and after the school days I organized free time activities for the children. Bloom Nepal School offered me accommodation, daily meals and a pick up from the airport at the arrival and departure. I warmly recommend volunteering at Bloom Nepal School to anybody who has a passion for education, youth work and development. I returned to the school for three weeks at the end of summer 2016 to see their new, earthquake-proof structure. During those three months in 2015 I became part of the “Bloom family”, as we call it, and still until this day I keep regular contact with the school staff and the children.”
“Before I arrived in Nepal on 18th May 2015, I thought that after the Earthquake in April, everyone in Nepal must be extremely terrified and hopeless. But when I arrived at Bloom Nepal School, which was totally destroyed by the quake, I just felt the positive atmosphere where kids played and danced all day long and received great care and love from teachers. I really admired their tenacity!”

But when I arrived at Bloom Nepal School, which was totally destroyed by the quake, I just felt the positive atmosphere where kids played and danced all day long and received great care and love from teachers. I really admired their tenacity! Bloom Nepal School is a great place for an international volunteer like myself. The school heads are international-minded young scholars from the best universities in the world, who gave us the opportunity and freedom to support the school by our best. Also, the kids are awesome! They are smart, motivated, hardworking and adorable! They are also very confident, and the students know English is good enough so that I could communicate with them easily. This trip has been my best volunteer experience so far and I will definitely go back there in the near future!”
“As soon as I stepped on to the campus of Bloom Nepal, I was welcomed like family. Everyday, I was immensely impressed with the passion that students and teachers show for each other, their school, and the educational mission that Bloom Nepal supports.”
“As soon as I stepped on to the campus of Bloom Nepal, I was welcomed like family. Everyday, I was immensely impressed with the passion that students and teachers show for each other, their school, and the educational mission that Bloom Nepal supports. I was fortunate enough to spend two weeks at the school learning, documenting, and photographing the vision for future education in Nepal. In that time, I was not only able to form incredible friendships, but was able to witness first hand the initial steps to changing the future of Nepali education. Like no other school in Nepal, Bloom seeks to bring passion based learning to every student, no matter the student’s upbringing. By taking this new approach to education, the hope is that students will break the norms of traditional schooling in Nepal, allowing them to explore what they are truly interested in, to excel in it, and to propel the country forward based on the education they have received. The vision is powerful and it makes me proud that I am part of the Bloom family. It has been just over one year since I have been to the school and I am incredibly excited to see how the school has progressed in that time… and it makes me even more excited to return!”
